Autumn Fashion in Poole: Jumper Weather, New Season Colours and a New Opening
There is a morning every September when you step outside, feel the air has changed and go straight back in for a jumper. That morning is close. Some of us have been waiting for it since June.
Autumn dressing is the easy bit of the year. Layers do the work, nothing has to match perfectly and you can hide a multitude behind a good coat.
The colours that come back every autumn
You do not need to follow a trend forecast to dress well in October. The shades that suit this time of year keep returning because they work against grey skies and low light.
Think rust and burnt orange, chocolate and toffee browns, deep burgundy, olive and forest green, mustard, plus cream or oatmeal to lift the rest. Navy and charcoal do the heavy lifting underneath.
Pick two or three you actually like, then build around them. That is the whole trick.
Knitwear and layers
New Look, H&M, Primark and Next are the places to start for jumpers, cardigans and the long sleeved basics that live under everything else from now until March.
If you want something with a bit more character, Loope Vintage Fashion and Restored Retro are worth your time. Vintage knitwear tends to be heavier and better made than anything at the price new. You will not see yourself coming back the other way.
Saltrock is good for relaxed, coastal layers that suit a Poole autumn. Poise Lingerie is there for the foundations, which matter more than people admit once you are wearing thicker fabrics.
Boots, coats and staying dry
This is Dorset. The coat is not optional.
Clarks, Deichmann and Skechers cover boots and proper shoes for the wetter months. Trespass is the one for waterproofs and anything that needs to survive a dog walk on the Quay in a gale.
New at The Dolphin: Betsy Licious
A very good reason to stay out longer. Betsy Licious has moved into STREET FOOD, bringing authentic Middle Eastern cooking to the centre.
Expect freshly made kebabs, shawarma wraps and beautifully spiced dishes in properly generous portions, served with the warm and colourful welcome Betsy is known for. It is a strong lunch stop mid shop and just as good in the evening.
Go hungry.
