NHS Outpatient Facility Moving to St Mary’s

The NHS Outpatient Assessment Clinic (OAC) in The Dolphin Poole will be moving to the former St Mary’s Maternity Unit in Poole from Thursday 5th June 2025.

The clinic first opened in December 2021, as part of University Hospitals Dorset’s ‘Think Big’ initiative that brought outpatient services to the heart of the community amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

The introduction of the OAC to a central town centre location on the first floor of The Dolphin significantly reduced wait times for appointments and eased pressure on hospital sites. Many visitors to the clinic also enjoyed the convenience of plentiful car parking spaces, and proximity to Poole bus and train stations.

John Grinnell, Centre Manager of The Dolphin said, “We’re disappointed that UHD have chosen to move this facility out of its current location in The Dolphin.

Despite the upcoming closure of Beales who share the same unit with the OAC, there were options for the facility to remain at The Dolphin. However, due to NHS budget constraints, we understand that this has not been possible.

Whilst unfortunate, the departure of both the Outpatient Assessment Clinic and Beales has given us the opportunity to refresh and reimagine the space. We will be looking for alternative occupiers for this space in due course.

As we’re exploring new possibilities, our final decision rests upon bringing new experiences and facilities to the centre which deliver value for our community.”
