Poole in Bloom & Parkstone Gardeners Society – Thursday 5th & Friday 6th March | 10am – 4pm | GATHER

Two of Poole’s biggest gardening organisations are taking over GATHER for two days and it’s going to be a brilliant event for anyone with even a passing interest in plants, flowers or the great outdoors!

Poole in Bloom and Parkstone Gardeners Society have joined forces to create a space packed with inspiration, knowledge and hands on activities. Parkstone Gardeners Society has been a fixture in Poole since 1897 and is currently rebuilding its community after the Covid years, welcoming gardeners of all levels with monthly meetings covering everything from gardening with arthritis to the art of growing fuchsias. Poole in Bloom run an annual competition each July and have been growing steadily since reviving it in 2019, with entries up 40% last year alone.

Over the two days there’s plenty to explore. A sensory table filled with beautifully scented and tactile plants will delight all ages, and a children’s table gives little ones the chance to pot their very own sunflower seed under supervision and enter the free children’s sunflower competition to take home and watch grow. There will also be a competition display table, history and information on both societies and a range of reference books with knowledgeable members on hand to answer all your gardening questions.

There are also two fantastic free demonstrations running across both days. Showing and growing expert David Bassil will be sharing his knowledge on seed sowing and cuttings at 11am on Thursday and 2pm on Friday. And Jason Edwards, who spent six years as a florist to the Royal Family before navigating a major stroke, will be giving a beginner’s guide to hand tied bouquets and ikebana floral arranging while sharing his remarkable story. Jason’s sessions are at 2pm on Thursday and 11am on Friday.
