3 Simple Steps to Sustainable Beauty

Happy Earth Day!

Just in case you’re not familiar with the concept of “Earth Day”, allow us to briefly introduce you to it. Earth Day is an annual celebration that is used to demonstrate support for environmental protection and work towards a more sustainable future.

Ultimately, it’s not just a day: it’s a movement. Earth Day comes around once-a-year as a friendly reminder to try to be more conscious of protecting and preserving the earth’s natural resources for future generations.

The theme for this year is “Invest In Our Planet”, so we wanted to help you join the green revolution by showing you a few ways in which you can put your money in the right places: in this instance, when it comes to purchasing cosmetic products!

Even making small changes can have a huge impact. So, here are 3 simple swaps that you can make to your beauty routine to do your bit to help save the planet.

Opt for refillable or recyclable containers

Did you know that there is a refill station in The Body Shop here at The Dolphin?

Switch from using plastic and visit this in-store refill station to pick up your own reusable aluminium bottle, that you can fill with your favourite haircare, shower gel or hand wash! It saves a whole lot of plastic…

It is also worth checking the label of a cosmetics item before buying to see if it is recyclable. Implementing this minor change in the way you shop for cosmetics can be extremely beneficial in preventing plastic from becoming a pollution problem in waterways and oceans.

Got any empty perfume bottles lying around that you’re not sure what to do with? Don’t just throw them away: recycle them in-store at The Perfume Shop and get 15% off – get your perfect scent for less and benefit the environment in one trip!

Choose products made with natural, organic ingredients

Products with natural, organic-based ingredients are better for your skin and the environment: it’s a win-win!

Our Holland & Barrett store here at The Dolphin stock a wide range of vegan beauty products. Have a sneak peek here, and then pop in-store for some expert advice from the team on how to find the best products for you and the planet.

Keep your eyes peeled for “Fairtrade” and “Rainforest Alliance” marks on cosmetics containers, as these mean that the contents have been organically and sustainably sourced.

Invest in good quality, made-to-last products

Try to get out of the habit of buying single-use beauty products (non-biodegradable wipes are a common example of this). Only investing every once in a while in reusable items is far more environmentally-friendly (and cost effective!).

Why not try using natural Q-tips, or reusable face wipes?

Perhaps also consider the materials of the beauty tools you are purchasing. Avoid plastic tools that could eventually end up in a landfill or polluting the ocean. Bamboo-based makeup brushes and eco sponges are great sustainable options for minimising waste.

Find all of the above mentioned zero-waste products at Holland & Barrett – where sustainable shopping is made easy!
